What ambition level is needed to stand out as a sustainability champion?

Plastic Manufacturer Co. is a leading manufacturer of B2B plastic products operating internationally. Over the last couple of years they have experienced a growing demand for products and services reflecting stronger climate responsibility and in the context of developing their corporate strategy they wanted to deep-dive on what it takes to become leading in their industry.

We were invited to join a full-day strategy workshop orchestrated by Valcon as an external challenger to the management team.

What we did

To give everyone a shared understanding of what is happening in the plastics sustainability space we gave an inspirational talk before diving into target and ambition level discussions. We made a call for the necessity to go beyond recycling and recycled content ambitions towards radically rethinking how products are sold and how they could come back and be reused. We showed examples of businesses steering after ‘regenerative by design’ and gave the client input for how to apply systems-thinking to capture the full opportunities of the circular economy. Through various workshop sessions facilitated by the Valcon team we contributed with sector insights and helped the team land the right ambition level to stand out.

Outcome

We left the management team with a recommendation for an ambitious 2025 target detailing the percentage of the business revenue that should be based on a reuse model.

Stop talking about your targets.

Start acting on them.
